What to do if the pear does not bear fruit

If the pear does not bear fruit, it means the tree is uncomfortable - it's time to sound the alarm and look for possible causes. There are many factors that cause a fruit tree to cease to color and form fruits.

Pear does not bear fruit

Variety of varieties

Each variety has its own age for fruiting and this can cause the pear to not bloom and not bear fruit in the waiting time of the gardener. There are those that bloom and bear fruit already for 3-5 years, but there are those varieties that begin to produce crops only when they reach 10-15 years from the time of planting.

They enter fruiting in this order:

  • "Muscovite" and "In memory of Yakovlev" begin to bear fruit in 3-4 years;
  • "Larinskaya", "Patriotic", "Red-sided", which delight with their fruits for 4-5 years after planting;
  • “Leningrad” and “Beauty” need about 5-6 years for ripening and readiness for giving fruit;
  • "Josephine", "Mecheln" and "Berelutskaya" will take about 10 years to begin the fruiting period.

To shorten this period, you need to do regular tree pruning.

This is done not only in order to get good harvests, but also in order to extend the life of the tree. Skilful gardeners also plant pear shoots on a quince tree, which helps to significantly reduce the start time of fruiting.

Fertilizers

Each fruiting tree requires fertilizer. The most common is manure.

It happens that when the soil is oversaturated, the pear gives a regular crop, and then abruptly ceases to bear fruit. It continues to bloom profusely, but there are no fruits at all, in this case the tree is oversaturated. It is necessary to slowly stop feeding.

Than fertilize

Manure is the main supplier of nitrogen to the soil, but even this is not enough for good fruiting. pear trees also need fertilizers, which include phosphorus and potassium. The best option would be granular fertilizers, which are applied to a depth of 20-25 cm and fall asleep on top of the soil.

When to fertilize

Fertilizing the plant is best in spring. The first flower buds form in mid-summer. It is better to plan so that by this time all the fertilizers applied have been used up.

Soil composition

Loose soils are well suited for pears. If the soil is very moist and not rich in nutrients, the roots will be soaked, and the ovary that has already formed will crumble.

A pear does not bear fruit in areas with increased acidity of soils. It is necessary to carefully monitor the composition of the soil before planting a pear orchard.

Landing

Every gardener and amateur knows how to plant fruit trees. But after all, many are faced with a problem when the pear does not blossom and does not bear fruit at all. When planting a seedling, it is unnecessary to deepen the root neck, but it is not worth raising too much, otherwise it will freeze.

Proper planting affects fruiting.

If nevertheless there is a deepening of the neck and the seedling has recently been planted, you need to slightly raise the tree, adding earth to the roots. Or you can dig out an unnecessary amount of land, thus freeing the root neck. If, on the contrary, the root collar is high, in this case it is necessary to cover the soil from all sides.

Wilding

If a young seedling grows rapidly and develops well, but does not bloom at the same time, this is a wild bird. This seedling will not bear fruit without special preparation and processing by a skilled gardener.

A little bird is a tree that has sprouted independently, from the seeds of one or another fruit fruit. Seedling branches need to be pollinated and re-grafted with material taken from a proven variety.

Lack of sunlight

If a tree grows on the north side behind a high fence, a multi-storey building or in the shade of other trees - this means it does not receive enough sunlight. As a result, the quantity and quality of the crop decreases, the leaves begin to fade.

With a lack of light, the pear does not bear fruit and becomes completely weakened. But this factor cannot lead to a complete halt to the fruiting of the tree.

Diseases and Pests

Like any plant, pears are also prone to disease and pest attacks.

  1. Pear tinnitus (leaf flint). This pest keeps the kidneys from blooming.
  2. Apple blossom beetle, which will destroy the flowers before the appearance of the fruit.
  3. Caterpillar of the eastern codling moth - feeds directly on the pulp of the fruit.

Various fungal diseases are also dangerous for the tree. Each garden needs timely spraying and protection. The first time this needs to be done before flowering, preparations from insects and fungi. The second time - when the ovary appeared, treated with the same drugs.

A pear blossoms but does not bear fruit

It happens that the plant blooms for a long time in spring, but by autumn there is no ovary. The main reasons why the pear does not bear fruit:

Lack of pollinator

The peculiarity of these fruit trees is that they need a cross pollinator at a distance of at least 3-4 meters. If there are several plants of the same variety on the plot, but the problem remains - you need a tree of another variety. A paired pollinator must mature at the same time as the pollinated tree.

When planting a young pear seedling, you should buy 2 plants. You can also plant another variety on one of the already growing trees, which will serve as a pollinator.

Spring frost

The reason that young trees bloom profusely, but do not bear fruit, may be spring frosts. Owners of summer, early flowering varieties face this problem.

If the climatic conditions of the region are prone to spring frosts, late-flowering varieties should be preferred: winter and autumn.

Output

The following factors affect the quality of fruiting: the presence of a sufficient amount of lighting, fertilizers, moisture, soil quality, place and conditions of planting, pruning, top dressing, pests.

Observing the basic rules for the care of pear trees, you can certainly achieve the results of your work and a quality crop.
