Rules for processing tomatoes in a greenhouse

To grow quality products in a greenhouse, you need to follow a number of rules. Processing tomatoes in a greenhouse is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance: the process does not require much effort and time.

Greenhouse Tomato Processing

A universal remedy for greenhouse tomatoes is Bordeaux liquid. This drug is used when the plant has already undergone fungal diseases. During the formation of bushes and fruits, the whole land is cultivated.

Before planting, the seeds are treated with a manganese solution: this will disinfect tomato seeds and reduce the risk of diseases.

At the time of flowering, spraying with the Abiga Peak preparation is carried out to protect the bush from pests and accelerate the process of flower formation.

During the formation of fruits, preference is given to substances such as Fitosporin or Alirin B. These drugs protect the plant from bacteriosis and late blight.

So that the fruits are juicier and tastier, the bushes are treated with the preparation "Bud" or "Tomaton".

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

Like many other fungicide drugs, Bordeaux fluid does not cure the disease, but stops it. Therefore, it is most correct to use all fungicide preparations not because the plants are sick, but in order not to get sick. All anti-disease treatments should be carried out as a preventative measure.

Procedure time

The first processing of tomatoes in greenhouse conditions is carried out 14 days after planting seedlings. For its use, mullein. To prepare the nutrient you will need 1 liter of mullein, diluted in 10 liters of warm water. At least 0.5 l of the prepared liquid is poured under each bush.

The second feeding of tomatoes in the greenhouse is carried out 14 days after the first. It consists in the use of complete mineral fertilizers, i.e. ready mixes from various macro and microelements (Azofoska, Nitroammofoska).

Getting rid of pests

Tomatoes are often attacked by caterpillars, whiteflies, spider mites or slugs. These insects eat not only the green part of the bush, but the fruits, which negatively affects the final level of the crop.

When small holes are found on the surface of the tomato, it is time to treat the tomatoes with insecticides. They are bred according to the instructions indicated on the package. Timely spraying of bushes will save the crop.

  • Whitefly is destroyed using the Confidor drug.
  • The slugs are removed using a special solution of hot Chilean pepper. About 10 liters of cayenne pepper are diluted in 10 liters of water and 1 liter is poured into each bush.
  • The spider mite is afraid of Karbofos. Also against it, use a tincture of garlic, onions or a soap solution.

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

To successfully deal with insect pests, you need to know at least a little of their life cycle: when they wake up from hibernation, when and where they lay their eggs, how many days after that the larvae appear. And if holes have already appeared on the tomatoes, then the caterpillars are already inside the fruit. It’s too late to spray such plants. This should have been done 10-15 days earlier.

Disease treatment

The disease can be dealt with.

One of the most dangerous diseases affecting tomatoes is considered to be a pillar. Signs of the disease — leaf segments become smaller, coarser, brittle, and from the inside the leaf becomes pink or purple. Shoots depart from the main stem at an acute angle. Affected in the early stages of life, the plants of the fruit do not give and dry out. Tomatoes infected during flowering produce poor quality fruits - coarse with white veins

Stolbur is a mycoplasma disease. Its carriers are aphids and cicadas. There is no cure for the disease itself, the fight is against vector carriers

To save the harvest, several stages of processing are carried out:

  • before planting, they treat the bushes and soil with insecticides;
  • when forming the ovaries, they are fed with immune stimulants.

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

Stolbur is a disease common in the southern regions of the country - Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Region. But with climate change - warming - vectors of infections and the disease itself began to appear in other more northern regions of the country.

Black bacterial spotting

A symptom of black bacterial spotting is the presence of watery areas, which eventually turn black. Convex numerous small black spots surrounded by a watery border appear on the affected fruits.

To reduce the risk of this disease, prophylactic procedures are carried out: in the fall, after harvesting, the remaining leaves are removed. Also, in autumn and spring, soil is sprayed with special antibiotics.

It is impossible to cure this disease. At its first signs, the bush is eradicated and burned.

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

The bacteria of this disease are transmitted with seeds, overwinter on plant debris. From plant to plant are transmitted with spray of water and air flow. Warm weather and high summer rainfall increase the spread of the disease. Early tomato varieties are more affected.

Infections caused by a variety of viruses are the most dangerous for tomatoes. The thing is that it is impossible to immediately notice them. They begin to appear over time, when it is too late to treat, so you need to observe the conditions under which tomatoes will be safe.

In connection with poor ventilation of the greenhouse or increased humidity, a number of complications arise:

  • lack of seeds;
  • necrosis, which is located in the structure of the fetus;
  • striped spotting.

At the first signs of the disease, the illumination is normalized, lamps are installed. Lighting should last for 12-15 hours a day. Humidity should not exceed 70%. Do not forget about airing the greenhouse: every day for 3-4 hours you should open the windows.

Special antiviral drugs are also used, but they should be handled with care, because an excessive amount of antibiotics negatively affects the taste of the fruit and the crop.

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

Antibiotics can only be used against bacteria. There are no drugs against plant viruses to date. Sometimes the weather itself helps with the appearance of tomato viral diseases. Comfortable temperature for the growth and spread of viruses is + 23-25 degrees. With the establishment of hot weather (up to +35 degrees), the number of viruses decreases. It's like a person with ARVI is not advised to drink antipyretic drugs, because increased body temperature (up to + 37-38) kills viruses.

Fungal diseases

The most common fungal infections are late blight, blackleg and anthracnose.

Prevention from these diseases is carried out at the time of seedling formation. When the seedlings are still in containers, it is treated with Bordeaux liquid or copper sulphate. Also use solutions prepared at home. Ideal - tincture of kefir (1 liter of kefir in 5 liters of water). 50 ml of tincture are poured into each bush.

It is almost impossible to get rid of anthracnose - the damaged bush is removed and burned away from the garden plot.

The disease can be prevented. To do this, planting seeds are treated with immunocytophyte and all waste is removed after harvest.

The fight against the black leg consists in tillage before sowing seeds with a manganese solution. If desired, you can use the chemical drug "Bactofit" or "Phytosphorin."

Tatyana Orlova (candidate of agricultural sciences):

The black leg mainly affects only seedlings of plants. The main ways to prevent it are to disinfect the soil: steaming, using biological products. Cassette growing seedlings also helps to prevent the spread of black legs, as each plant is located in a separate cell and the disease cannot be transmitted to others through the soil.

A positive result of growing tomatoes is achieved only with proper care. In addition to proper watering and top dressing, the processing of tomatoes in a greenhouse is important. If you save seedlings from diseases and parasites, you can increase productivity by at least 3 times.
