Rules for the construction of the crawler
A do-it-yourself gatherer is a great place to grow domestic waterfowl. Quite a lot of amateur poultry breeders are wondering how to build a crawler, is it possible to do it yourself?
The best room for geese is an industrial type crawler. In fact, the crawler is a small shed, which is quite realistic to build on your own. The main thing is to take into account all the points: recommendations and conditions that will make it possible to quickly and efficiently complete the structure.
Features of the construction of the track
You can build a geese shed directly at home or at the cottage in the village, the places of possible accommodation depend on the owner’s desire. But what’s important is to create a favorable climate for the birds in the barn: it shouldn’t be too hot in summer and cold in winter. To create a reliable room for keeping geese with your own hands, it is initially worth preparing all the materials that will be needed to create and developing detailed drawings, they include internal and external standards and are taken based on the number of birds. Professionals advise building with a small margin (if in the plans - the production of goods for subsequent sale).
The most popular building materials for this business are cinder blocks and wooden beams. Such a room for geese will be warm and cozy. The final choice is entirely based on climatic features. The first ones work an order of magnitude faster, but they are not stable, if they are exposed to moisture, the tree, on the contrary, holds heat very well, but to build a room for keeping geese, you will have to spend more time.
Basic room requirements
Before creating the drawings, it is important to recall some points due to which the birds can feel good and give a certain number of eggs, so the arrangement of the premises requires the following requirements:
- Temperature background and arrangement of the crawler. Gosyatnik is the main habitat for birds, especially in winter, so maintaining a constant temperature will be an important aspect. If possible, you should consider schemes for additional heating of the air.
- Area. The correct calculation of the minimum territory is carried out based on the number of geese, therefore, in order to build a house of a goslingnik with your own hands for 20 geese, you need a room of 20 square meters. m, respectively, each goose is given 1 square. m
- Since the device of a home caterpillar is made using natural materials (as an option - wood, straw, etc.), you need to maintain the moisture level in the air in the room. Ideal conditions are when even in winter it remains dry.
- Normal air circulation should be maintained in the shed, but it is also impossible that there are very large (large) openings, because these are additional drafts.
- Around the house you need to leave enough space to make a summer corral, in which geese can walk in adverse (rainy) weather.
- If possible, then the right decision is to build a home caterpillar somewhere on a hill. In this case, the room will be reliably protected from rain moisture, because the large thickness of the soil guarantees additional protection.
- Shed for geese should not only be created correctly, it is also important to maintain a favorable microclimate. To maintain the proper level of geese content, a careful arrangement of the premises is necessary, which will allow to survive the summer heat and winter period, therefore a hinged door is provided for connecting to the corral, with its help the bird will be able to move freely.
If the previously stated criteria are not met, then it is likely that the farmer is waiting for a decrease in the quality of the goods produced.
Choosing a place under the barn
DIY construction is not so difficult.
Initially, it is necessary to choose a site, preferably in order to protect the premises from spring floods and ground waters. In the southern regions, where there is an overabundance of solar radiation, the crawler is built with a facade to the southeast or west, in the northern and central ones to the south, so that sun rays fall into the sheds.
The floors in the stable are made of mud or wood, it is important that they are raised somewhere 20 cm above ground level (if plus or minus a centimeter, this is not a problem). This is necessary so that groundwater does not fall into the do-it-yourself crawler, creating dampness and leading to the development of diseases in geese.
Construction of premises according to the rules
After the creation project plan is ready, the farmer must prepare everything necessary to build and insulate the do-it-yourself crawler in the shortest possible time:
- Work equipment.
- Household tools.
- Fastening materials.
- Instruments for measuring.
- Building materials.
Stages of construction
With such construction, it is very important not only to choose the right materials, but also to follow the phased construction rules as much as possible.
In the previously designated place under the tracker, marking is performed. To do this correctly, it is important to follow the drawings. Next is digging a trench under the foundation. Size - half a meter depth and the same width.
This is necessary so that a layer of sand, gravel can be poured into it. Then they put the reinforcement and fill the trench with concrete. To prevent small and large pests from entering the premises, the farmer must carefully monitor the concrete pouring process.
After pouring, a short break is made. This period is necessary for good solidification of the foundation. After that, the construction of the walls begins.
According to the standards, the height of the walls should be at least 2 m. If this is a wooden track made by yourself, then for the frame, as well as on the floors, professionals recommend using high-quality material (good boards and bars).
The floors in the home caterpillar are made of either wood or concrete.
Each of the options presented has its advantages and disadvantages. The first is a natural, breathable building material. It is mounted very quickly, which saves time, providing the bird with warmth in the crawler. But it does not block the penetration of pests, in terms of wear it deteriorates much faster than concrete, as it is susceptible to decay.
The second guarantees tightness, an ideal surface, preventing the penetration of groundwater. But it is much colder than the previous one, it does not allow air to pass through, and at high temperatures it can release specific fumes.
Keeping geese without exaggeration can be called a difficult task, therefore, the construction process, as well as the subsequent arrangement, must be carried out in accordance with all requirements.
The roof is installed according to standard technology. The main criterion in choosing a roof: it should protect the track carrier as much as possible from external manifestations and precipitation, be reliable so as not to break from snow or under the blows of the wind.
Installation of doors and windows
During installation, you need to think through everything so that at least one window opening can be opened, this is required for ventilation of the room. The content of the bird must comply with the standards, and if there is humid air inside, then it can become sick from the emerging harmful microorganisms.
All remaining can be deaf, this will provide more stable heating and temperature regulation.
The north side can be additionally insulated, for this use mounting foam or special material (sawdust or store insulation), which will be used for the remaining parts: walls and roof. All of them have their own characteristics.
- Mineral wool. It passes air perfectly, is easily mounted, but quickly rots from moisture, settles.
- Styrofoam. Easy to stack, retains heat perfectly, but takes up too much space. It doesn’t let water through, so moisture will accumulate in the gooseneck.
- Sawdust is affordable, guarantees excellent ventilation, but just like mineral wool, they quickly begin to rot.
If it is possible to ventilate the room in the crib on an ongoing basis, then for additional insulation you can use artificial materials such as polystyrene or polystyrene. They perfectly fulfill their role, keep warm inside.
Plus, if the farmer lives in an area with high humidity, this is a standard phenomenon, then it is worth taking artificial materials. After warming, part of the room is upholstered with wooden boards. If the building is constructed from cinder block or brick, then it does not need insulation.
The final arrangement of the caterpillar.
When the room is ready, you need to proceed to the final stage - the arrangement. Moreover, inside the crawler should look no worse than outside, so the farmer without any problems with his own hands cleans the room from building materials. Next, disinfection is carried out: a special solution of salt and lime is used for it. 150-200 g of salt and 2 kg of lime are taken per 10 l of water. Floors, walls are treated with this solution and only after 3 days of drying and airing the geese can be launched into the barn. It is also important to make the arrangement of places of rest and feeding. The room is divided into 2 equal parts, in one of them there will be young animals, in the other - adults.
Basic requirements for sockets
There should be several of them, as some individuals can consider their installed nests and not let others in them, so for two geese 1 nest is enough. If the crawler is designed for 20 geese, it is enough to make 8-10 nests. They need to be placed on the south side, but in the dark part of the room.
The feeders should be intact and long enough so that the geese would not arrange a battle for food. If this is a do-it-yourself goslingman for 20 geese, let there be about 3-4 feeders.
Goose feeders use 2 types: for wet mixers and for dry food. The latter are fixed on the wall above the ground. Thus, you can save a lot of space, plus the birds are comfortable to eat.
If the floors are wooden, then there is no need for additional shelving, although they very well retain heat in the stable, and also hold back dirt, so the farmer will not have to clean the track every day.
The purity of the barn plays a crucial role for the growth and development of the bird. In a dirty room, geese are often sick.
Troughs, basins, etc. are suitable for the role of drinking bowls. It is enough for the farmer to monitor the purity of the water. A two-meter drinking bowl is suitable for 10 geese, but here it is important to take into account the dimensions of the gusler itself.
These birds need enough water and plenty of free space. The photo of the device of an industrial tracker clearly demonstrates how geese should be located in such a room. A do-it-yourself jibber designed for 20 geese is almost an industrial box.
The lighting system and indoor climate plays an important role if you decide to build your own crawler. Ensuring these parameters is the main goal of creating a goose dwelling. During this, it is important to adhere to the following standards:
- The humidity level is not lower than 40 and not more than 70%. The optimal average value is somewhere between 50 and 60%.
- Temperature background - up to 27 ° С.
For young animals, it is worthwhile to provide for additional heating. For this purpose, you can use an infrared lamp, the main thing is to ensure that the lamp is low enough to heat the room, but high enough so that young individuals are not burned. Goslings, through negligence, can cause themselves injuries, burns.
The final part of the construction
Each of the stages has its own nuances, which must be observed in order for a room made by oneself to serve the farmer for a very long time. All information, that is, photos and videos, about how we build a home crawler, can be found in the public domain. This will greatly facilitate the understanding of all stages of work.
A good goose house should include a room with flooring, nests, a drinking bowl and a feeder. When the bird feels comfortable, then it will normally pick up the whole and carry a sufficient number of eggs. The device of a home caterpillar is not a simple business, but profitable in terms of financial costs.
