Is it possible for chickens to eat bran

A farmer who wants to grow healthy and productive hens must take care of the correctness and usefulness of their diet, what they will eat, how they will eat. Bran for laying hens is the most important aspect of a balanced diet, they must be included in the menu of domestic birds.

Bran for laying hens

It is important not to overdo it and not to overdo it, otherwise all actions for the improvement of hens will only do harm. Everything should be in moderation.

The use of bran in the diet of chickens

When used correctly, wheat bran will enrich the supply of vitamins and minerals in the body of chickens. Here are the benefits of using them:

  • Unlike premium flour, which loses 80% of all nutrients during processing, all vitamins and minerals stored by nature are preserved in bran.
  • With regular feeding of chickens with bran, they can improve their egg production, increase productivity, prevent health problems (in particular with the gastrointestinal tract).
  • Bran chickens are useful as a storehouse of chemical elements necessary for normal growth and development.

An important role in the feeding process is also played by the fact that bran should be given to the feathered bird no later than 40 minutes after cooking, which should consist of soft feed (boiled or baked, mashed vegetables) and bran.

Such food retains its beneficial properties for 40 minutes, and later begins to slowly waste them. If you feed chickens with pre-prepared foods with bran, they may develop malnutrition.

Daily consumption rate of bran birds

The amount of bran consumed is different for laying hens, chickens and broilers. How to give bran to chickens and for laying hens. Bran should not be a separate type of food, this is just an addition to the main people as an enrichment of the feathered diet.

Recommendations for the introduction of bran in the diet of pets:

  • Considering that bran to chickens and for laying hens is a product with a low calorie content and a sufficiently high fiber content, it is important to remember the recommended proportions. Young growth and meat type chicken should not consume more than 30-40 g of bran per day. For layers, this amount can be slightly increased.
  • If the goal is to reduce the weight of the birds a little after gaining weight, you can limit the birds' nutrition by including bran with stirrers in their menu instead of half the daily feed rate. The second half must be maintained in its main form.
  • Consumption of bran bran should be in the morning or beginning of the day. For the remaining time of the day, the feathered organism will have time to digest food and absorb all the useful elements from there.
  • The percentage of bran in the diet of hens should not be more than a quarter (25%).

Knowing how and in what quantities it is possible to give bran to layers, chickens and broilers, feeding a pet will not be difficult. The process of preparing mixtures (mixes) for birds is also simple.

It is important to consider the correct proportions and mix bran and additives as carefully as possible. It is forbidden to exceed volumes and to allow the formation of compacted pieces: broilers cannot eat such a mash.

How to cook bran bran mixers

Layers, chickens and broilers need different mixes in composition, aimed at strengthening different organs and systems in the bird's body. Everything also depends on the age of the feathered: young growth needs more vitamins and nutrients for the normal growth and development of the body, and less time is needed for older individuals.

Layers of hens

Chickens that are grown to get eggs need a proper diet that includes bran and hen makers for laying hens. It varies for the summer and winter periods and depends on how much time the birds spend in free-range. Let's start with a summertime recipe:

  • 50 g of boiled root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, etc.);
  • 20 g of bran itself or oatmeal;
  • 5 g of legumes (green peas, corn, beans, etc.);
  • 7 g of special feed yeast or oilcake;
  • 45 g of any whole grain;
  • 10 g of fermented milk product (whey, cottage cheese or kefir);
  • 1 g of fish oil;
  • 3 g of chalk;
  • 5 g of flour (the flour can be bone or ordinary, preferably not the first grade);
  • 0.5 g of salt.

This recipe is designed for 1 middle-aged laying hen. The number of ingredients needs to be changed, depending on the number of birds on the farm, but it is important that each of them gets the right percentage of vitamins and nutrients. Now the recipe for the winter time:

  • 65 g whole grains;
  • 10 g bran;
  • 100 g of boiled potatoes or other root crops (beets, carrots, etc.);
  • 6 g of legumes (green beans, peas, corn);
  • 7 g of cake or fodder yeast;
  • 100 g of dairy products (in winter, whey is better)
  • 3 g of chalk;
  • 1 g of fish oil;
  • 2 g of bone meal;
  • 0.5 g of salt.

Bran broilers should be given to hens throughout their life: from a very young age to old age. But the chicks need completely different dishes, which will be described below.

The chicks' digestive system is very vulnerable, and therefore their diet should be as balanced as possible. Greens and bran are also present in the broiler chicken menu, but in different doses.

Required ration for broiler chickens

If the laying menu differs depending on the season, then broiler chickens vary according to age. During the first 2 weeks, it is worth cooking according to one recipe, and during the next 2 weeks - according to another. The menu for the first 2 weeks of the life of the pies must be prepared from the following calculation:

  • 16% medium-sized wheat;
  • 50% corn tart;
  • 14% of the flakes;
  • 8% chopped barley;
  • 12% whey or low-fat kefir.

Such food needs to be fed to young chicks in the first 14 days of their life. At this time, their body was not yet strong enough to accept normal, too heavy food.

And here is the menu for the 14-30 day of the bird’s life:

  • 13% wheat turf;
  • 5% special fodder yeast;
  • 48% chopped corn;
  • 19% sunflower meal;
  • 7% bone or fish meal;
  • 3% fresh herbs;
  • 1% feed cake;
  • 3% whey or kefir.

Food according to this recipe can be given to broilers until the slaughter, but after they reach one month of age, you can switch to a more economical diet. Also at this time, it is recommended to add premixes, fresh herbs, cottage cheese or fish oil in small quantities to the diet of birds.

The main thing is that the bird must fully and correctly eat and drink enough water. In addition, bran can be entered into the chicken menu periodically: during the growing up of the chicks, during the laying of eggs or during the molting period. The last point needs to be discussed in more detail.

Moult bran

Every year in the off-season, hens begin to molt. Is it possible to give chickens bran when molting? At this time, the body weakens and needs additional sources of nutrients. A great way to add vitamins and minerals to the birds menu is bran. During this period, it is better to include this product at the rate of 30 g per 1 chicken head. You can also add sunflower meal, fish oil and other sources of minerals. This will help the birds to better shift the period of the plumage and prepare for the cold season so that bran for chickens and hens is the necessary food.

The farmer must monitor the condition of their wards.

Sometimes chickens do not need additional sources of minerals, their overabundance can lead to disruption of the digestive system: it will not cope with the amount of incoming food. To avoid this, you need to carefully monitor that the chicken farm remains clean, and the pets are full. This is the key to good products in production.

How and what to feed hens, in addition to bran

In addition to mash mash with bran, hens need to be given complete nutrition. It should be balanced and correctly selected for the type of bird. The principles of balanced nutrition for hens are as follows:

  • An important building block is protein. It is part of all body tissues and is organogenic. In large quantities, protein is necessary for the correct formation of eggs in layers and high-quality meat in broilers. In order to include it in the diet, birds need to be fed foods rich in protein. They can be of plant origin (oilcake, legumes, meal, etc.) and animals (bone and fish meal, shellfish, earthworms, etc.).
  • The treasury of energy and beneficial elements are fats. They must be of high quality and include them in the form of corn and oats.
  • Carbohydrates are required by the body for normal functioning. Chickens should be fed pumpkin, beets, carrots, potatoes and other root crops to replenish the carbohydrate balance.
  • Fish oil, green grass and yeast are a source of vitamins necessary for the bird's body to develop normally.
  • In addition, laying hens and broilers should receive a sufficient amount of minerals from bone meal, shellfish and wood ash.

There are also a number of products that are strictly prohibited for consumption by hens. It includes greened or missing potatoes and chicken.

The consumption of such food leads to the development of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and the general malaise of the bird's body. It is better to avoid the consumption of such foods by chickens than after that treat birds for all the resulting diseases.

It is possible and necessary to give bran to hens of any age. It is only important to choose the right ratio of products depending on the time of year or stage of development of the bird. Bran helps to make the resulting product better: the eggs become larger, and the breast takes on a better look.

When feeding birds bran it is important not to overdo it and not feed the layers, wishing them well. Also, we must not forget that the mash mixes are only a source of minerals and vitamins, an addition to the main feed. These are not interchangeable dishes; neither one nor the other can be excluded from the diet of the bird. Keeping all these simple rules in mind, you can safely give bran to the birds and grow a healthy and productive generation on your home farm.
