Fighting spider mites in a greenhouse in cucumbers

Tick Description

A tick is a small insect, its size is only 1 mm. Its coloring can be different. It hibernates in manure, in the upper balls of soil, fallen leaves, corners of the greenhouse, feels good at temperatures from 23 ° C to 33 ° C and average humidity, actively propagates under these conditions. Lays eggs 400 at a time. A suitable place for it is under the leaves of plants, so the tick on cucumbers in greenhouses is most often settled, because for him there is the most suitable microclimate.

The tick migrates quickly, so you need to start fighting this pest as quickly as possible. The problem is that, at an early stage, infection is extremely difficult to identify. In a week it will be visible already visually, and in a few days all the leaves will be enveloped by an almost transparent web. Young individuals will multiply in it, whole colonies will live.

If the tick settled on cucumbers in the greenhouse, with regular inspection of the bushes, you can see the first signs of damage: white spots on the leaves.

If the foliage is completely white, the pest has already seriously damaged the plants. The tick feeds on the juice from the cells and with the rapid spread of pests, the culture quickly loses its vital juices and dies. In addition, it can infect cucumbers with bacteria of gray rot, due to which plants weaken and are easily amenable to other diseases.

At low temperatures, female spider mites do not give offspring, but at this time they can move in the greenhouse, feed, destroying plants. If the distance is small, they are able to migrate from one greenhouse to another. They can even be blown into the neighboring area.

Ways to fight

If the spider mite still settled on cucumbers in the greenhouse, measures should be taken. Simple spraying with water to increase humidity or using an ultraviolet lamp will not work.

Folk remedies

Infusions from plants will help get rid of the tick

If the plant is not very affected, you can try using alternative methods. Most often they use infusions from plants containing substances that are harmful to the tick. They treat sick bushes.

  1. Take half a bucket of marigold flowers and pour warm water. Stand for 2 days and add 40 g of laundry soap. The resulting solution is sprayed with plants in the evening.
  2. 1.2 kg of potato tops are insisted in a bucket of warm water for 4 hours. Affected areas of the plant are well moistened with this tool.
  3. 4 kg of green tomato tops are poured 10 liters of water, boiled for 30 minutes, after which 40 g of laundry soap is added. Before processing, plants are bred in half with water.
  4. Apply 96% alcohol. Only the lesion is sprayed. Re-processing is carried out after 7 days, the final - after another 8-10. When cooling, the intervals between the sprayings increase.
  5. Moss is poured with boiling water and dried. After washing, the bark is dried in the oven or microwave. Then they are laid on the soil under the plants.

Biological products

If folk methods do not help, you can plant pests in the enemy's greenhouse. To do this, take several leaves on which the phytoseyulus mite is located. He eats a spider mite, as a result of which the latter is able to disappear after 2 days.

The spider mite lives not only on plants in the greenhouse, it is able to start on cucumbers in open ground.

In both cases, it is important to apply plant protection measures. Chemicals have a strong effect, but they can negatively affect human health, therefore, when using chemistry, you should be extremely careful.

Spraying should be carried out each time with other drugs, since over time ticks develop resistance to them. It is required to give a sufficient dose in several applications to kill all pests, otherwise they will multiply again. In hot weather, processing is repeated after a week, as the female matures in 7-8 days and gives new offspring. These works are best done in the evening when the heat subsides so that the drug does not evaporate.

It is possible to fight with a tick by means of a group of acaricides. Among them are:

  • Acarin is a contact-intestinal drug that kills the tick. Unsafe for people, for three days after application.
  • Apollo destroys the larvae and eggs of the pest, sterilizes adults. Does not affect bees and insects. The solution moistens the affected areas of the plant.
  • Fitoverm is an effective drug that is almost harmless to humans. The action of spraying lasts 7 days, then the procedure is repeated.

Ground sulfur

You can do pollination with ground sulfur: 3-4 g per 1 square. m

Before using chemicals, you should carefully read the instructions. It’s worth protecting yourself with work clothes.

All methods of combating the spider mite on cucumbers, which conducts vital activities in the greenhouse, have their pros and cons. Folk may not always be effective, chemical - too toxic. To choose the right remedy, you must carefully monitor the plant and take into account all the recommendations.

To prevent infection of the culture and the spider web pest, the tick in the greenhouse does not settle in the cucumbers, you can apply some measures:

  1. When growing cucumbers in greenhouse conditions, it is necessary to keep humidity at the level of 80-85%. It will be useful for a vegetable, but a tick will not survive for a long time in such conditions.
  2. Remove weeds from the beds in time.
  3. Correctly maintain the distance when planting bushes, it is better to increase it. Greenhouses should be located one from one at a distance of more than 1 m. Then the insects will not be able to move.
  4. Alternate plants for planting in one area. Change cucumbers well with tomatoes or cabbage.
  5. Before sowing, it is worth digging the ground.
  6. Every few days, conduct a thorough inspection of plants, if they see affected leaves, they must be torn off and buried or burned. In this way, the spread of pests is prevented.

The problem of damaging cucumbers with a spider mite should be taken seriously, because it is not easy to neutralize it. It affects not only the fruiting of the crop. If you do not apply timely means to combat the pest, the plant will die. A spider mite, settling in a greenhouse in cucumbers, settles firmly on the site and does not leave a favorable territory itself.
