Fighting cabbage tracks
Cabbage foliage is often affected by pests, among which there are caterpillars. Fighting caterpillars on cabbage is carried out by different methods, each gardener chooses the most preferable or uses complex measures.
Fighting cabbage tracks
Consider what types of caterpillars on cabbage leaves are dangerous.
Cabbage White Caterpillars
Cabbage whitewater is a white butterfly with a black border on the tips of its wings. She lays eggs in May; they can be found on the inside of the cabbage leaves. The larvae of this pest are gray-green in color, outlined with yellow stripes and black spots. As a rule, cabbage larvae caterpillars settle on the upper side of the leaves, eating greens and delaying the development of plants.
Day butterfly repensa in appearance is similar to the whitewash, only it is smaller. Its larvae are velvety, with a green color and a yellow stripe. They eat cabbage foliage and spoil the heads of cabbage.
Cabbage scoop - a small butterfly leading a nocturnal lifestyle. It is nondescript, dull gray. Its larvae are green in color and settle inside the cabbage head. In the daytime, they get out onto the leaves.
Cabbage Moth Caterpillars
Night cabbage moth appears in April and lives on cabbage plantings until July. In a gray-brown butterfly with a light pattern, very small larvae with a green color appear that settle on cabbage foliage.
Folk methods of struggle
Usually, most gardeners begin the struggle using folk methods that do not harm future vegetables.
Attracting natural enemies
Summer residents, in order to get rid of caterpillars on cabbage, prefer to attract natural enemies (for example, ants and wasps) to the beds. You can entice beneficial insects to the site with the help of sweet liquids if you water them with cabbage plantings.
Butterfly larvae do not mind ladybugs and beetles, which can be attracted to fragrant peduncles.
Folk remedies help get rid of insects
The use of eggshells is a trick against harmful white butterfly butterflies laying eggs on plantings. Gardeners lay the shell on the cabbage leaves, which the butterfly takes for another insect, and does not settle on the occupied territory.
Planting plants with a pungent odor near vegetables also helps to get rid of caterpillars in cabbage and scare away pests. Such properties in the fight against butterflies and their larvae are possessed by garlic and onions, potatoes and tomatoes, coriander and lovage, calendula and marigolds.
Instead of planting plants, you can resort to watering cabbage beds with infusions made on them. To prepare a saturated solution, about 2-3 kg of tomato or potato tops, a dozen garlic heads and a 200-milliliter can of onion peel are required. All this is insisted for a day, and then cabbage plantings are sprayed. Soap is added for a better grip.
Vinegar and ammonia
Acetic essence with a concentration of 9% helps to effectively control pests. Cabbage beds are watered with a solution of 2 tbsp. l vinegar diluted in a 10-liter volume of water.
Ammonia has the same properties. 50 g are required for the same volume
To destroy the larvae that settled on the leaves of cabbage allows simple baking soda, if it, mixed with flour in equal proportions, sprinkled with cabbage.
Pest control is possible in a simple mechanical way, manually collecting insects and burning them.
Recently, microbiological preparations have appeared to control pests and their larvae on cabbage. Their advantage is safety for plants and animals. Their main action is aimed at infecting harmful insects with one of the types of microbes that lead to the death of pests.
The use of microbiological drugs at the same time helps in the fight against fungal and bactericidal infections.
Entobacterin is a microbiological preparation against insects. To process cabbage plantings, 50 g per 10 l of water is enough.
The drug is used at a temperature of 18 ° C - 30 ° C. At lower temperatures, microorganisms that kill pests are not capable of growth and reproduction. The frequency of spraying cabbage with entobacterin is at least 2 times per week. Use of the drug is stopped a week before harvest.
Other preparations with a microbiological nature:
- "Lepidocide" and "Fitoverm" are effective against all harmful insects and their larvae,
- "Bitoxibacillin" is used in the fight against cabbage and female reprose.
In advanced cases, when there is a massive defeat of cabbage plantings by pests, it is possible to get rid of caterpillars on cabbage only with the use of chemical preparations. Today there is a wide range of chemical insecticidal insecticide products. They are diluted with water and used for spraying:
- "Splender." The norm of use is 25 g per 1 liter.
- Triflurex. The norm of use is 240 g per 1 liter.
- "Decis extra." The norm of use is 125 g per 1 liter.
- "Butisan." The norm of use is 400 g per 1 liter.
