Features of ficus cyatistipula

Growing indoor plants is very exciting and interesting, but if it was difficult to find original species before, now this does not present any problems. The assortment in specialized stores is incredibly wide, but the ficus tsiatistipula enjoys constant popularity among flower growers, due to its appearance and unpretentiousness in care. And if the height of domestic plants is measured in centimeters, then in nature they often reach several tens of meters.

Features of ficus cyatistipula

Features and differences

The demanded variety is the ficus tsiatistipula or otherwise goblet. His homeland is Africa, where he, under favorable conditions, reaches a height of more than 10 meters. Interestingly, at home, it is unlikely to reach even 2 meters. The plant is an evergreen tree with a chic crown of large oval leaves with pointed tips. Ficus ciastula has an interesting description.

  1. The leaf is large in size, up to 20 cm long and about 7 cm wide. It has soft peels and a light green vein in the center. The bottom of the sheet is lighter than the top.
  2. The branched crown consists of strong petioles, which in nature grow up to 3.5 meters.
  3. The tips of the twigs cover the brown flakes.
  4. Ficus bears fruit at an early age, but its fruits can not be eaten, although they look very attractive, small, up to 5 cm, yellow.
  5. Ficus goblet is easily tolerated by the shadow and does not suffer from a shortage or an excess of moisture. But in the cold season, it is advisable to reduce watering to a minimum, which will protect the roots from decay, and its leaves from shedding. Check that the soil is completely dry between waterings.

Condition Requirements

Absolutely all ficuses, and tsiatistipula is no exception prefer air with high humidity. This is easy to do: spray it daily with room temperature water. With an enviable frequency, take it to the bathroom and arrange a bath day while showering. But remember that after such procedures it is forbidden to immediately put a tree in the sun: hold it for some time in the shade, letting it dry. Another important point: the pot with the plant should be kept away from heating appliances, approximately two meters away.

It is good if the lighting is bright enough, but diffused. The optimum temperature for growing is 16 degrees in winter and up to 23 degrees in summer. When the heat becomes unbearable, ventilate the room in which the ficus gallifolia is located. It’s good if you have an air conditioner, but even if it is not there, don’t try to place the plant near an open window: a draft is extremely dangerous for it. In principle, this is all home care necessary for active growth and comfortable growth of ficus.

Soil selection

Get special primer in the store

The soil should be fertile and porous, with a neutral Ph. It’s easier to get a similar mixture in a flower shop, but you can cook it yourself. There are several options:

  • mix in equal parts turf and leaf soil and add to it half of the total mass of sand;
  • take the same amount of peat, turf and leaf land and sand;
  • one portion of turf, sheet land and coal, plus half a portion of sand.

The plant needs drainage with expanded clay, which is laid on the bottom of the pallet, and sprinkled with sand on top. Ficus goblet is preferred for irrigation with standing, warm water. And, if you need to water often in the warm season, then in winter, once every ten days is enough. Remember fertilizers and put them into the ground regularly - this will improve growth. Buy high-nitrogen liquid organic mixtures. The frequency of application is 2 times a week, but only during the period from spring to autumn, when the ficus is actively growing.

Reproduction and transplantation

Propagate the tree using cuttings and air bends. The optimal length of the cuttings is around 10 cm. After the cut, rinse the cuttings themselves and treat the cut with charcoal. There are two ways of rooting: put the branches in a container of water, until the roots form, or immediately plant them in the ground. A mixture of peat and sand is good for this. In this case, temporarily cover the young shoots with polyethylene. It is possible to grow a tree even from seeds, having built a small greenhouse, but it is whiter than troublesome and very long.

Ficus does not need pruning, so at your discretion, remove everything that you think is unnecessary and form the desired crown. Ficus goblet is added in growth to approximately 25 cm per year and requires annual transplantation into a larger pot. Just do not overdo it: increase the diameter gradually, by 4-5 cm at a time, otherwise growth will slow down. Have you reached the pot size of 30 cm? Feel free to stop the transplant, but simply change a few top centimeters of soil to a new one.

Need to know

Ficus goblet has a pest. This is a powdery worm, spider mite and scutellum. And when you rearrange it from place to place, there is a risk of shedding leaves. Because of this, you should not move the pot with the tree more often than once a month. And also we will not allow dry air in the apartment - this leads to drying of the leaves. And do not put the tree in a dark place, as this will lead to a deterioration in its growth.

Outwardly, the ficus glomeruli looks exotic and beautiful, pleasing to the eye and complementing any interior. Provide the plant with proper care at home, and it will delight you.
