Euphorbia Trihedral - features of growing a subtropical flower
Another name for the plant is Euphorbia trigona (lat. Euphorbia trigona).
Euphorbia comes from the subtropics of Africa, often found in Madagascar. In the natural habitat, the culture is represented by a tree, located mainly on dry hills.
It has a fleshy stem with characteristic three faces and pronounced ribs. On the latter there are small spines with small leaves located closer to the top of the shoots.
In the course of development, it forms several productive processes, in connection with which many are compared with a candelabrum, which resembles in appearance.
Mostly painted in saturated green. However, there are extremely rare specimens with stems of a reddish hue and leaves of deep raspberry.
In indoor conditions, the plant develops quite actively and is quite capable of reaching 3 m, if the height of the ceiling of the room allows it.
With minimal care, it can please with its decorative qualities for many years, which attracts gardeners even despite the fact that the culture does not bloom.
Purchase and adaptation
When buying a plant, you need to carefully examine it, even if visually it looks healthy. Symptoms of diseases or vital activity of parasites include stickiness on the surface of shoots, spots, softened areas.
Immediately after the pet is at home, it should be carefully rinsed under a slightly warm shower and then quarantined for a couple of weeks. This time, the flower is quite enough to adapt to the conditions provided.
After this period, the culture is transported to the new soil, having previously rid the roots of the old as much as possible.
It is preferable to hold an event in the spring. The pot is chosen based on the dimensions of the succulent itself. Ideally, it should be quite wide due to the surface location of the root system and not very high.
Also, every season it is recommended to change the top layer of the substrate.
When transplanting large plants to the bottom, quite weighty pebbles are laid out, which gives Euphorbia stability. Moreover, drainage is one of the important requirements during the procedure, regardless of the age of the succulent.
The necessary conditions
|For air humidity, the trihedral representative of milkweed is not demanding.|
To maintain health, the plant follows spraying and a gentle soul
In the latter case, the soil must first be protected with plastic wrap.
|Succulent does not tolerate sharp fluctuations in temperature.|
In the growing phase, the best option is to maintain room temperature.
In winter, when Euphorbia is at rest, they are reduced to 15-18 °.
|She feels good both in partial shade and under diffused sunlight, therefore she is not at all capricious regarding the degree of illumination of the room.|
The plant successfully grows at home.
A pot with a plant can be placed both on the open window sill, and in a nook in the room. The exception is the windows with access to the north side.
It may well grow in a greenhouse or on a loggia. However, it is necessary to accustom the culture to the direct exposure to sunlight, so as not to provoke the formation of burns on the leaves.
Euphorbia needs well-drained loose soil, which is characterized by a high degree of breathability.
For planting, you can take a purchased substrate for succulents and cacti or make it yourself. In equal proportions mix:
- river sand;
- sheet earth;
Additionally, the pot is equipped with a brick crumb drainage layer to prevent fluid stagnation in the tank.
Euphorbia Trigon is a godsend for beginner inexperienced gardeners. It is able to grow quite comfortably in room conditions.
Fertilizers and fertilizing
From spring to autumn, when the flower is in the vegetative stage, it is fed with specialized preparations for succulents. In this case, the procedure is carried out monthly.
The use of single-component compounds is not recommended - there is a likelihood of harming the bush.
The reason for the appearance of small white spots in the excessive amount of nitrogenous compounds in the soil, and this phenomenon is only the milky juice that protruded through minor damage.
This is due to the fact that due to the high content of organic matter in the soil, the plant begins to gain volume and, as a result, burst.
Trigon tolerates short-term drought quite comfortably. For a bush, overmoistening is much more destructive than a short thirst. However, for better development, an earthen coma should not completely dry out.
During the growing season, watering is carried out once a week. In the winter season, the number of procedures is significantly reduced.
In addition, you should pay attention to the pallet - stagnation of water in it can provoke decay of the root system.
Also, sanitary cleaning of the surface from settled dust, which is done with a dry soft brush, will not be superfluous.
The principle of transplantation is identical to almost all indoor plants. For young specimens, annual transportation is necessary, for older adults - once every 2-3 years. Moreover, in the latter case, they are guided by the degree of filling of the container with roots.
The absence of a haircut will allow the milkweed trihedral to reach an impressive height, which is not always acceptable for standard apartments. Therefore, in the case of a limited space of the room, they trim.
Manipulations are carried out with a well-sharpened knife at the required level, after which the injured place is sprinkled with crushed activated carbon.
In the future, the plant forms lateral shoots and changes its original shape, becoming more like a spreading shrub.
If you do not want to trim, you can cover the crown with a kind of cap, for which a cork from a plastic bottle is quite suitable. As a result, the flower will stop in growth and put forth strength on the formation of secondary processes.
Euphorbia breeds by children
Trigon can be propagated most productively by the vegetative method; segments located on the sides are used as seed material.
- Young cuttings are cut short, reaching a length of 10 cm, while pruning is done with a margin.
- Dry for 2-3 days. After treating the wounds with crushed coal.
- Place in wet sand or perlite. To more successfully root a plant, it is determined in a sufficiently lit place so that direct sunlight does not fall on the process.
- When signs of increased growth appear, transplanted into another container.
Diseases and Pests
Due to the fact that the plant is considered poisonous due to its milky juice, it is extremely rarely exposed to pest attacks. However, sometimes aphids, spider mites and mealybugs attack succulents.
It is worth regularly inspecting the green pet for insects.
|Aphid||It is mainly located on the inner side of the leaves or completely covers the surface of young shoots.|
Affected parts curl, turn yellow, fall off.
It spreads from other plants or by falling through an open window.
|Spray with infusion of nettle / onion, a solution of laundry soap with alcohol.|
Minor colonies can be exterminated by regular showering and trimming of the most injured segments.
|Spider mite||Appears in case of excessive dryness.|
It looks like a microscopic arthropod.
It is initiated by a thin white cobweb.
|Eliminate the affected areas, wash the entire plant under running water. Then they are treated with systemic drugs: Akarin, Fitoverm, Karbofos.|
Use of soap or alcohol solution is allowed.
|Mealybug||At the first stage, inhibition of succulent growth is observed, after a complete stop in development.|
An insect can be identified by the sticky trail left by the parasite.
|Mechanically removed with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, then treated with chemicals (Bankol, Actellik, Inta-Vir, Commander)|
If you care for the succulent without relying on its requirements, there is a possibility of certain problems:
- The plant begins to actively discard leaflets, which is caused by excessive watering.
- Leaves turn yellow - as a result of excess in feeding.
- Brown growths are formed in the case of prolonged exposure of milkweed under the influence of direct sunlight.
Benefit and harm
The plant is considered poisonous, which must be considered if the family has children or animals.
Euphorbia purifies the air and fights harmful bacteria. Many people place a flower near a computer in order to minimize the negative impact of electromagnetic waves, mistakenly confusing with a cactus. He will not cope with such an impact, but he will be fully tuned to productive work.
In the bedroom, holding a pot with a stately handsome man is not worth it, which is associated with the subtle aroma of the plant. As a result, irritability and sleep disturbance may occur.
In ancient times, it was used to reduce warts, corns and various diseases. Indian medicine men used succulent root powder as an antidote to snake bites.
True, modern doctors are ardent opponents of such a technique. Despite the experience of their ancestors, the toxicity of culture is noted.
