Characteristics of serpentine cucumbers

Grade description

Serpentine cucumbers are characterized by high productivity and the fact that they ripen early enough. Their use is diverse, because the gherkins look great both in the bank and on the table.

Bushes of this variety of cucumbers are powerful, medium-tall, medium weave, the type of flowering they have is female. From time to time, as they were planted before harvest time, 42-45 days pass.

The fruits of the cucumber Serpentine for the most part has an oblong cylinder shape, its length can be up to 12 cm. The wonderful presentation of this vegetable and its taste will please every gardener. The pulp of these vegetables is crispy and not bitter. The fruit is fragrant, with a thin skin, can weigh an average of up to 95 g.

With one square meter, you can collect a decent crop - about 20 kg. And under the best growing conditions, even up to 25 kg. The first of them "give birth" together, and since Serpentine brings fruit for a long time, there is an opportunity to enjoy the fruits all summer.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

In order to determine the choice of cucumber variety, you need to analyze all the advantages and weaknesses of this variety. Advantages of the Serpentine f1:

  • soil for cultivation can be both open and closed;
  • Serpentine crop is quite high;
  • excellent presentation;
  • tasty and juicy gherkins;
  • long stored and well transported;
  • universal to use;
  • not capricious and moderate.

The only drawback that contains a description of the serpentine variety of cucumbers is that the young fruits must be thoroughly washed before eating (preferably with a brush) to remove the thorns.

Planting varieties

If you decided to plant cucumbers at the beginning of May, it is better to do this in grooves with a depth of 3 cm and you do not need to wet the seeds first. Spread them at a distance of 30 cm and cover with soil. If the sowing takes place in late May or early June, then the seeds need to be wetted in advance (for 7-8 hours), and the groove should be well watered before planting the seeds. Until sprouts appear, the bed must be left alone.

Soil preparation

The plant does not tolerate low temperatures

The characterization and description of the variety says that the cucumber Serpentine f1 does not like low temperatures. Accordingly, in order for the bushes to sprout well, it is necessary that the temperature of the soil is approximately 17-18 ° C. The site is prepared in advance in the fall: it is dug up and the remains of plants are removed.

The best choice for this would be places where tomatoes, cabbage, peppers or various types of salad were planted before.

Before digging up, pay attention to that the length of the bed can be any, but let the width be no more than one meter. It would be nice to raise the bed by 20 sms. Better yet, dig it up and cover it with foil for two weeks so that the earth warms up properly. After this, you can plant seedlings.

Landing time

The time for planting the seeds of cucumbers Serpentine for seedlings is the end of the first decade of April.

To do this, you need to take separate containers (not a common box). In five to six days, seedlings should appear. Plants are usually planted in May, when the weather is favorable. Seedlings are transplanted into wells located at a distance of 30 cm from each other. Then they close the hole with soil and water it abundantly.

Serpentin f1 cucumbers with its excellent yield are easy to grow, but subject to simple rules.

Serpentine cucumbers require moderate watering until the time when they bloom (consumption 4 liters per square meter). You need to water once every five days. After they bloom and begin to “give birth”, the watering regime needs to be changed - once every three days (at the rate of 10 liters per square).

Do you want Serpentine cucumbers to produce a good harvest? Then in the summer it is necessary to carry out 4-5 fertilizing with different types of fertilizers (mineral and organic), which are best alternated.

Cucumber Serpentine requires regular feeding:

  1. Compost mortar. It should be paid once every seven days. It’s easy to calculate - a feeding bucket per square meter.
  2. A mixture of ash and water will also fertilize the gherkins well. Bushes are added to it once a week and prepared as follows: a glass of ash is stirred in a bucket of water (for every two meters of a bed).
  3. If, after ripening the fruits, the cucumber leaves become coarser, spray them with urea dissolved in water (1 tbsp.spoon per ten liters).

Pest treatment

Many problems arise in gardeners as a result of the actions of various insect pests. The battle with cucumber "enemies" is mandatory, unless, of course, the gardener is interested in the final result. Most often, a cucumber attacks aphids, spider mites and gall nematodes.

In order to leave the aphid, you can spray the leaves with tobacco infusion or tincture of wood ash with laundry soap. Onion (70-90 gr per 10 liters of warm water) and garlic (40-60 gr per 10 liters of warm water) infusion will also help remove aphids from cucumbers. After 24 hours, you can use it for watering.

Spider mite

You can destroy it by spraying with a special solution sold in the store. Soap solution can also help in solving this problem.

Gall nematode

To escape from this parasite, you need to remove the layer of diseased soil (50 cm) and replace it. In greenhouses and hotbeds, steam cultivation is used. Soil freezing is also recommended.

In case of non-observance of the necessary rules for caring for cucumbers, you may be disappointed - the cucumber Serpentin can simply “get sick” and the yield will drop. But in case of proper care, a grateful plant will bear fruit for a long time and delight with a generous harvest. A sufficiently long period of plant life, as well as its unpretentiousness, makes this variety of cucumbers a good choice for those who are very busy.
